  • And finally March Madness is in full swing!
    .
And student-reporter Gray H. is here to tell us all about the latest development in the NCAA tournament.  Take it away, Gray!
    .
  • GRAY: Hello, sports fans! I’m Gray, and I am MAD for MARCH MADNESS!!! The First and Second rounds of March Madness have been wild! In fact, many are calling this tournament the craziest of all time!

    .
For only the second time in history, a 16 seed has defeated a number-1 seed —  Fairleigh Dickinson over Purdue! In fact, Fairleigh Dickinson only made the tournament by a technicality — so their win over Purdue might just be the biggest upset ever. But sadly, they lost in the next round to 9-seed Florida Atlantic.

    .
Another major upset was 15-seed Princeton beating 2-seed Arizona. It’s the first time that a 15-seed and a 16-seed won in the same tournament! Princeton then beat Missouri in the second round, continuing their Cinderella run.

    .
As for our hometown team, 4-seed Virginia lost a heartbreaker to 13-seed Furman — after a miraculous 3-pointer with just seconds to go!  That sounds more exciting than Math to me.

    .
And the Kansas Jayhawks — last year’s national champion and current 1-seed — lost a thriller to 8-seed Arkansas. No repeat champion this year.  But good for Arkansas — who has made three straight Sweet Sixteens!
    .

    .
In the women’s draw, the biggest upset in the first round was 12-seed Toledo beating 5-seed Iowa State.

    .
And in the second round of the tournament, TWO number 1-seeds lost. Stanford and Indiana falling to Ole Miss, and Miami respectively.

    .
And with all these upsets, according to ncaa.com — every single bracket got busted.  Nobody’s gonna be perfect this year.  But there’s plenty more action to come!  The Sweet Sixteen starts tonight and we’ll see who’s gonna make it to the Elite Eight.  Once again, I’m Gray, and I’m MAD for March Madness! See ya, Wolf Pack!!
