- Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month? All over the country, millions of people are coming together in support friends and loved ones who struggle with mental health. This year, the MHA’s focus is “Risky Business” — dangerous behaviors that could be a signal that someone is struggling, such as: drug use, internet addiction, unsafe sex, and others.
.
If you — or someone you care about — have any questions or concerns about mental health, you can ALWAYS drop by the main office to speak with a WMS counselor or social worker. Also, students are encouraged to check out the “peeps” board by the cafeteria for more information. Remember: Mental health matters!!
. - Attention WMS! The Virginia Standards of Learning are set to begin NEXT WEEK — beginning May 17th and continuing until June 9th. The SOLs will involve every student and staff member in school — so it’s important that everyone knows what to expect.
.
To learn your testing days and location, either check with your TA teacher or the posting boards located by the cafeteria and library. And on your testing days — you may ONLY bring the following items: a pencil or pen, a book to read, and earbuds ONLY if you have an approved audio accommodation for the test.
.
You may NOT bring: backpacks or cinch sacks; electronic devises such as phones, tablets, watches, game consoles and the like; nor any water or snacks. And of course, there is zero tolerance for CHEATING. And even on days when you’re NOT testing, please remember to be quiet and respectful in the halls.
.
Any other questions or concerns? Check with your teachers or grade level counselors. Good luck on your tests!
. - Who wants pizza?! The WMS Future Business Leaders of America Club will be holding a pizza fundraiser TODAY after school by the Library and the Cafeteria. It’s just 2-dollars a slice. And in honor of mental health month — all proceeds will go to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. So buy a slice and save a life!
. - Hey, 7th grade! How would you like to attend one of the top-10 High Schools in the country? Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology will be hosting an informational session on MONDAY, May 22nd at 10:30 in the auditorium. TJ officials will be on hand to explain the admissions process, and any other questions you may have about this incredible school. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity! Interested students should sign-up in the main office, or see Mr. Tuttle with any questions.
