BATTLE: Good morning, Wolf Pack! My name is Ms. Battle, and I am the Intervention Counselor here at Williamsburg Middle School. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this is Mental Health Awareness Week! During this time, millions of people all over the country are coming together in support friends and loved ones who struggle with mental health.

And here at WMS, we’re doing our part, too. All this week, we’ll be hosting a series of special events, activities, and lessons in support of mental health awareness. To begin, every day this week will have a unique theme. Today’s theme is: We all have mental health!
.
According to the National Institutes of Health, roughly 20-percent of American kids face mental health challenges each year. But 100-percent of kids need to be MINDFUL about their mental health and the mental health of those around them. So, the first step in normalizing Mental Health Awareness is to have honest conversation, and to recognize that this impacts EVERYONE in our shared community.

Last month was Arab American Heritage Month. And in honor of the occasion, our very own Ms. Sowwan has created something special for every member of our community.

Ms. Sowwan is fluent in Arabic — and has created a notecard for EVERY WMS student and staff member with the English AND Arabic spellings of their names. It’s really cool!
.
Teachers will be distributing the notecards during TA this week. And if you see her around school, please be sure to thank Ms. Sowwan for her thoughtful gift. Thank you, Ms. Sowwan!! [clap]

Who wants BARBEQUE??? This Wednesday, Sloppy Mama’s Barbecue on Langston Boulevard is hosting a fundraiser for the WMS PTA between 11am and 8pm. And now for a “technology tip” from Ms. Stokes-Beverley and Ms. Hwang! Your school-issued iPad is critical to your instruction here at WMS. Please remember that you are expected to bring it to school EVERY DAY and FULLY CHARGED. And if there’s anything wrong with it, please tell your TA teacher so they can notify technology support. They’ll have you back online in no time!!
