  • We begin today with a special presentation.  February is Black History Month, and we have a number of special programs and activities in store!
    .
So to get things started, please welcome Mr. Gardner — our 6th grade counselor — to WOLF-TV!
    .
  • GARDNER: Hello, everyone!  I’m Mr. Gardner, and today I’m here to introduce Black History Month. It is the story of struggle, of triumph, of excellence, of the ordinary, of celebrated firsts and of stories never told.  In other words, Black History is American History.
    .
You might be wondering:  why is there a Black History Month in the first place?  Well, it was inspired by a group of historians in 1926 who were dedicated to researching and promoting the achievement of African Americans and all people of African descent.
    .
Originally called “Negro History Week” – it encompassed the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas, and encouraged people to hold events that celebrated this important segment of our population.
    .
By the 1960s, the week had grown into a full month!  And in 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans.
    .
Yet still today, the history and legacy of African Americans CONTINUE to be underrepresented in many museums, classrooms, and textbooks. But WE have the power to bring them to light!
    .
So come take a journey with us this month as we explore the evolution of Black culture through music, clothing, food and innovations – from Africa, to the Caribbean, to the Americas.  Thanks for your support, wolves!!
    .
  • Thanks, Mr. Gardner!  And now, back to the news!
    .
  • Today we will be following the A-Day schedule. That means you’ll be attending periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 — plus Wolf Time — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class. Again, this is an A-Day. See your TA teacher with any questions.
    .
  • And here’s another important scheduling note — this week, 7th and 8th graders with semester-long electives will begin their new classes.  So make sure you know where your new elective is located — and see your grade-level counselor with any other questions.  Again, new semester-long classes for 7th and 8th graders begin this week.
    .
  • It’s nearly time for the 2nd quarter Wolf Paw Drawing!!  That’s right — the 2nd Quarter Wolf Paw Drawing is this FRIDAY.  But to be eligible for a prize, you MUST submit your Wolf Paws to your grade-level box by this WEDNESDAY.  Prizes are now on display outside of the library.  There’s some great stuff in there, so come take a look!  Once again, please submit your Wolf Paws by this WEDNESDAY.  And good luck!!
    .
  • Spirit Week, Feb. 2025It’s SPIRIT WEEK here at Williamsburg, sponsored by the Student Council Association.  Thanks to all the students and staff who dressed up for today’s theme:  PJ Day!  You’ve got spirit, yes you do!!
    .
And here’s the rundown for the rest of the week:  Tuesday is Tie Day, so dress to impress! Wednesday is Favorite Celebrity Day — but be sure it’s appropriate for middle school!  Thursday is Class Colors Day — 6th grade Blue, 7th grade White, and 8th grade Black!  And we wrap it up with Flashy Friday — so wear your best Hollywood Bling!  Plus, everyone is encouraged to wear SNEAKERS all week long!
    .
So remember to get into the spirit for Spirit Week, and be a part of the Wolf Pack Pride!!
    .
  • And now it’s time for WOLF PACK PRIDE!!  This week is National School Counseling Week.  Our entire Student Services Staff work tirelessly to support each and every student here at WMS. In fact their theme for 2025 is “School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive!”
    .
Our school counselors are here to help us develop important life-skills, such as:  resilience, self-motivation, adaptability, effective communication, and so much more!  So on behalf of our entire school community, we’d like to say THANK YOU to all of our amazing counselors!
    .
And if you see any of our counselors around the school this week, be sure to wish them a happy National School Counseling Week!
    .
Ms. Bleakley, Mr. Gardner, Ms. Brenckle, Ms. Russo, Ms. Battle, Ms. Chisolm, Ms. Nemeth, Ms. Karns, and Ms. Terzaghi — thank you all for everything you do, every day.  Way to go, counseling wolves!! [clap]

  • Black History Month, 2/3/2025And now, it’s time for a new segment on the Morning Announcements: “Black History Month — That’s a FACT!!”
    .
Today’s fact is about inventor Elijah McCoy. He patented over FIFTY inventions in the 19th century, including: a lubricating oil cup that allowed trains to lubricate their steam engines without stopping, which saved time and money; the folding ironing board; and the sprinkler, just to name a few.  And That’s a Fact!!
