- Today we will be following the BLUE DAY schedule. That means TA is extended until 8:25, and then you’ll proceed to periods 1 through 7 — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class. Again, this is a BLUE day. See your TA teacher with any questions.
. - Any student who was requested for the Blue Day should report to that teacher’s classroom IMMEDIATELY. Please do NOT wait until the end of the announcements. Go NOW! Teachers, please double-check your Blue Day list and make sure those students are on their way.
. - Calling all athletes!! It may still feel like winter outside, but the Spring sports season already here! The Swim team and Dive team both begin this week, and the Track and Field team begins on March 10th. But to participate, you MUST submit your sports physical form to the yellow mailbox outside of the Activities office. See Ms. Hogwood with any other questions about Spring sports.
. - And now for a “wellness tip” from our school clinic! It’s cold, flu, and covid season again — so here are three simple strategies for keeping our shared environment HEALTHY and SAFE! First — WASH YOUR HANDS!! Second — Fully cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. And third — if you’re not feeling well, please STAY HOME. Together, we can stop these germs and viruses BEFORE they spread. See our school nurse with any questions.
. - Something exciting is coming to WMS next month! March is Women’s History Month, and our Student Services Department is organizing a series of events and activities to celebrate — but they need your help! If YOU would like to be a part of the planning and development for Women’s History Month, please contact Ms. Wielechowski in room 124. Thanks for supporting women and girls, Williamsburg!
. - And as we prepare for the beginning of Women’s History Month, we’re also coming to the end of Black History Month. So our Student Services Department has decided to postpone Friday’s Black History Month Spirit Day — and instead we’ll be hosting a COMBINED event recognizing both Women’s History and Black History NEXT month. We’ll have more details about this upcoming special event in the coming weeks.
. - And now, it’s time for “Black History Month — That’s a FACT!!”
.
Today’s fact is about Benjamin Banneker — a self-educated free-Black man who made an incredible contribution to our county in 1791. At the request of his friend, President Thomas Jefferson, Banneker helped to survey the original borders of Washington, DC — our nation’s capital. He also gained fame as an astronomer, a mathematician, an almanac writer, and an outspoken abolitionist. And That’s a Fact!!
