- Today we will be following the B-Day schedule. That means you’ll be attending periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 — plus Wolf Time — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class. Again, this is a B-Day. See your TA teacher with any questions.
. - Attention all MUNNERS!! The WMS Model UN Club is meeting TODAY in room C105 during ASP I. Participants are reminded to bring your permission slips for the upcoming conference at Alice Deal Middle School. See Mr. McDermott with any questions.
. - Calling all athletes!! It may still feel like winter outside, but the Spring sports season already here! The Swim team and Dive team both begin this week, and the Track and Field team begins on March 10th. But to participate, you MUST submit your sports physical form to the yellow mailbox outside of the Activities office. See Ms. Hogwood with any other questions about Spring sports.
. - Something exciting is coming to WMS next month! March is Women’s History Month, and our Student Services Department is organizing a series of events and activities to celebrate — but they need your help! If YOU would like to be a part of the planning and development for Women’s History Month, please contact Ms. Wielechowski in room 124. Thanks for supporting women and girls, Williamsburg!
. - WHAT ARE THOSE??? As part of our school’s commitment to sustainability, Williamsburg is supporting a Sneaker Recycling Program called “Got Sneakers!!” So if you have any old shoes lying around, don’t throw them away!! Instead, from now until the end of the year, please donate them to “Got Sneakers” by dropping them off in room 233. Again, bring your old shoes to room 233. See Mr. Sundwick with any questions.
. - And now for a “wellness tip” from our school clinic! It’s cold, flu, and covid season again — so here are three simple strategies for keeping our shared environment HEALTHY and SAFE! First — WASH YOUR HANDS!! Second — Fully cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. And third — if you’re not feeling well, please STAY HOME. Together, we can stop these germs and viruses BEFORE they spread. See our school nurse with any questions.
. And now, it’s time for “Black History Month — That’s a FACT!!”
.
Today’s fact is about a history-making poet named Paul Lawrence Dunbar. Dunbar was born in 1871 to formerly enslaved parents from Kentucky. He excelled at writing from an early age, but was unable to get a writing job due to his race. However, his talent couldn’t be denied. Dunbar published his first collection of poetry in 1893, and it was a HIT! He went on to become one of the first INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed African American poets in history. And That’s a Fact!!
