  • Today we will be following the A-Day schedule. That means you’ll be attending periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class. Again, this is an A-Day. See your TA teacher with any questions.
    .
  • Listen up, 6th graders!  It’s time to start planning for NEXT YEAR.  This week, the 6th-grade counselors will be distributing Course Request Forms for the 2020-2021 school year.  In addition to core classes, you’ll also get to pick semester or year-long electives.  The CRFs will be due next WEDNESDAY, March 4th — but don’t wait until the last minute or your first-choice classes may be filled to capacity.  See your counselor or ANY teacher for more information about what classes are best for you!
    .
  • Read any good books lately? The “Talk about Books” Club” — a.k.a. TAB — will be meeting TODAY during all grade level lunches in the library. So grab your grub and come take a look at these Totally Awesome Books!!
    .
  • It’s time to hit that diving board and make a SPLASH!  The WMS Dive Team is recruiting divers for the new season — which  begins TODAY after school — and all you need is a towel, a swim cap, and nerves of steel!  Interested athletes should see Ms. Hogwood during your grade-level lunch for more information. Good luck, divers!
    .
  • Calling all coders! “Girls Who Code” — an after school club committed to cutting edge computer coding — will now be meeting on Wednesdays during ASP 1 and 2 in room 137. New day of the week, but same great time! Girls in all grades are invited to participate — whether you’re a computer pro or just getting started. See Ms. Edme with any questions.
    .
  • Hey, everybody — do you have a question about something in our school? Do you have an issue or problem that you think our administration needs to know about? Then we want to hear from YOU!  Next month, WOLF-TV will be hosting a Town Hall event with Principal Bryan Boykin.  But first, we need to know what questions to ask.  So if you’ve got something on your mind — whether it’s about academics, extracurricular activities, technology, the cafeteria and lunch, bullying, the dress code, or ANYTHING else — then go to the Morning Announcements blog on the WMS website and click the “Town Hall” link to submit your questions. Make your voice heard, Williamsburg!!

  • And finally today — the 2020 Presidential Election is just 9 months away, and the battle for the Democratic nomination is REALLY heating up.  Student-Reporter Sam W. joins us on set for the latest WOLF-TV Election Update. Take it away, Sam!
    .
  • SAM:  Welcome to your WOLF-TV 2020 Election Update. I’m student-reporter Sam.
    .
The runup to the 2020 election continued last week with the debate and caucus in Nevada. The debate was noteworthy for the first appearance of former-New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg — yet another billionaire who wants to be President. But he weathered a brutal attack from the other candidates, especially Senator Elizabeth Warren, who compared him to President Trump in her opening statement.
    .
Then, on Saturday, Nevada became the third state to vote in the 2020 Democratic Presidential Primary. And this time there was a clear winner:  Senator Bernie Sanders received roughly 46-percent of the vote — putting him in a commanding lead for the nomination. Former VP Joe Biden came in a distant second with 19-percent. And Pete Buttigeig, Warren and Amy Klobuchar rounded out the top five.
    .
The next Democratic debate is scheduled for TONIGHT at 8 PM. And then on Saturday, South Carolina will have its primary, followed by SUPER TUESDAY next week — during which FOURTEEN states — including Virginia — and two U.S. territories will all vote on the same day.  So it’s possible that by next weekend, we may know who the odds-on favorite for the nomination will be.
    .
And in local news, Senator Bernie Sanders will be hosting a rally in nearby Louden County this Saturday — and it will likely sell out, so get there early if you want to see him in person.
    .
I’ll be back throughout the year with continuing coverage of the 2020 Election.  Rock the vote, Williamsburg!
