- We begin today with WOLF PACK PRIDE! The WMS girls basketball team wrapped-up their season yesterday with a DOMINATING win at home over Kenmore Middle School — 46 to 11. 8th grader Grace M. led the team offensively with 10 points. And 7th grader Piper O. had 8 points and 7 rebounds. Plus, eight other players each chipped-in at least one basket. It was a great game — and a great season! Way to go, baller wolves!! [clap]
. - Wolf Pack Pride continues with the WMS wrestling team — who also scored a big win on the road against Kenmore yesterday — 56 to 31. Key victories came from Scott A., Micheal A., Jonathan B., Max A., Gian C., Will T. Don’t look now — but the WMS wrestling team is starting to look like a CONTENDER! Way to go, wrestling wolves!! [clap] All wrestlers are reminded that there will be PRACTICE next MONDAY after school — so come ready roll!
. - This is an important reminder to all 6th graders on the Elective Wheel. Due to the snow day this week, your current elective class has been extended until TODAY. Again, 6th graders on the Wheel should remain in their current elective class for one final period — then your NEW class will begin next week.
. - Calling all students who participated in the PTA Reflections Contest this year! Your submissions and award certificates are available to be picked up — TODAY in the Library “reflections” bin. Again, if you have not yet taken home your submissions and certificates, please collect them from the library before you go home this afternoon. And of course — congratulations to everyone who took part in the contest!
. - “I’m so glad I didn’t buy a yearbook” — Said no one EVER! Today is the deadline to buy your 2018-2019 WMS Yearbook — which means that this is your LAST CHANCE to get one before they’re all gone. Yearbooks cost 40-dollars — or for 55-dollars you can get the exclusive “Signature Package.” Just go the WMS Website to place your order TODAY — or stop by room 137 and ask Ms. Kontos and the yearbook staff for more information. The WMS Yearbook — Don’t miss out on the memories!
. - LAST CALL for the WMS Kindness Club’s “Have a Heart Campaign.” Students and staff are encouraged to donate used towels and blankets that will go to support local animal shelters — and the hundreds of homeless pets they’re trying to get adopted. Donations are being collected in the bin outside of the library until the end of the day. So have a heart — help our furry friends in need — and donate NOW!
. - And now for a “Transportation Tip” about riding the bus. If you’re ever planning to take a bus that’s not your own — like if you’re going to a friend’s house after school — you MUST bring a note from home to the main office NO LATER than your grade level lunch. Again, do NOT wait until the end of the day to get a bus pass — because there isn’t time and you’ll miss the bus! See Ms. Argenal in the office with any questions.
. - Up next, it’s time for “Champions of Change” — honoring the innovative, courageous, dedicated Americans who helped to shape the world we live in. Meet Valerie Thomas — a physicist, a NASA data analyst, and an inventor. Born in Maryland in 1943, Ms. Thomas made a number of technological breakthroughs for the American space program. But she may be MOST famous for her contributions to the silver screen. If you’ve ever been to a 3D movie before, then you have HER to thank for it.
.
In 1980, Thomas patented the “Illusion Transmitter” — which uses concave mirrors to create a 3-dimensional image. This innovation was the first step towards modern 3D technology — and is still used by NASA today. She has received numerous honors and awards for her contributions to science, and her efforts truly make her a Champion of Change!
. - And finally today, Random Acts of Kindness Week is coming to an end — but that doesn’t mean the KINDNESS will ever stop. There are a lot of people out there who can use a kind word, a kind gesture, and a kind friend — and that kindness begins with each and every one of YOU! And to help to keep us in the right “kind” of mood — check out this inspiring performance by The Lab on “World of Dance.”
