- Today we will be following the B-Day schedule. That means you’ll be attending periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class. Again, this is a B-Day. See your TA teacher with any questions.
. - And now, we’d like to welcome a special guest to the WOLF-TV studio — who’s here to kick-off KINDNESS WEEK at WMS. Everyone say HELLO to Ms. Kenney!!!
. - KENNEY: Good morning, Williamsburg! I’m Ms. Kenney, your 7th grade school counselor. We’re celebrating Kindness Week here at WMS — and learning ways to make our shared community a better place.
.
But I’d actually like to start things off by discussing something that ISN’T kind: Bullying. We hear that term a lot these days, but let’s make sure that you REALLY know what it means.
.
Bullying is NOT when friends are teasing you during a game — when someone hurts your feelings — when you’re not allowed to do something you want to do — or when you feel someone is treating you unfairly.
.
Bullying IS the intentional and repeated infliction — or attempted infliction — of injury, discomfort, or humiliation on a student by one or more others. It arises from an imbalance of power or strength — may include physical, verbal, or nonverbal behaviors — and victimizes an innocent person.
.
When a word gets overused or is misused it loses its meaning…kinda like the word “literally.” So if we use the word “bullying” or “being a bully” the wrong way, it makes it difficult to address the REAL issue of bullying when it happens.
.
Words have power, so let’s remember the power of our words — and choose them wisely. Be kind to one another, wolves, and BE A PART OF THE PRIDE!!
. - Thanks, Ms. Kenney! Up next — If you participate in a club or after school program here at Williamsburg — then we’ve got a very important announcement for YOU. The WMS Yearbook will be taking pictures of all WMS groups and activities over the next few weeks. First up — TODAY during ASP 1 will be the Making Marvelous Movies Club, the Dance Club, and the Kindness Club. And then on Tuesday — there will be club pictures for the Wolfbots Robotics club. Members of those clubs should plan to get there ASAP so they’re not left out of the picture! Stay tuned for more information about additional Yearbook club pictures coming soon.
. - Attention Kindness Club Members! The next meeting is scheduled for TODAY in room 136 during ASP 1 for a meeting. In addition to planning your upcoming activities, you will also be taking your Yearbook picture so don’t be late! See Mrs. Briones, Mr. G, or Ms. Pugliese with any questions. Spread kindness, Williamsburg!
. - Enjoy learning about the world, its people and places? Want to improve your community? Well, you can do it all with GEOGRAPHY! Be a part of the WMS Geo Club — meeting TODAY, and every Monday, during ASP1 in room WW9. See Mr. Miller with any questions.
. - Calling all Best Buddies! The Best Buddies field trip to the International Spy Museum is scheduled for December 4th — but members are reminded to turn-in your permission slips by this WEDNESDAY at-the-latest in order to participate. The field trip is certain to be a blast — so you won’t want to miss it. See Ms. Parris with any questions. Thanks, buddy!!
. - And now it’s time for WOLF PACK PRIDE! First up, the WMS girls basketball team earned a HUGE win over Dorothy Hamm Middle School last week — 34 to 7. Big props to the leading scorer, 8th grader Piper O., who sunk 12 points in the match — and to the entire team for a complete game on offense and defense. Way to go, baller wolves!! [clap]
. - Wolf Pack Pride continues with the boys Soccer team who also defeated Dorothy Hamm last week — but this one was a nail biter — 1 to nothing. 8th grader Jake O. scored the only goal of the game — and goalies Ian M. and Garret W. combined on the first shutout of the year. Way to go, soccer wolves!! [clap]
. - And Wolf Pack Pride wraps-up with the Wolfbots Robotics team — who are are competing in the NOVA Community College VEX League. Congratulations to Ojas C., Jackson D., and Matteo G. — for coming in 5th place out of 20 teams last weekend. Way to go, robot wolves!! [clap]
. - And finally today — teachers and staff here at WMS work hard every single day to make our school — and its students — the very best they can be. But in your opinion — does one teacher “stand out” from all the rest? It’s time to pick the 2020 WMS Teacher of the Year! Just use your iPad to scan the provided QR code — then place your vote from among the nominees. Once again, everyone is encouraged to vote for the Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced this FRIDAY! Thanks for your participation, and may the best teacher WIN!!
