ACT II Requirements

Overview of ACT II Art Class: The ACT II Art class will require all students to attend scheduled sessions beyond the regular curriculum. This class will allow students to explore various artistic mediums, develop their skills, and create unique projects. Each student will receive a grade based on their participation and progress in this class, which will contribute to their overall academic record.

Class Requirements:

  • Mandatory Attendance: All students must attend each scheduled ACT II Art class.
  • Grading: Participation, effort, and completed projects will be graded.
  • Course Content: Students will explore different techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, culminating in a showcase of their work at the end of the term.

We believe that this initiative will not only enhance students’ artistic skills but also encourage self-expression and collaboration. Our goal is to create an inspiring environment where students can thrive creatively.

Art class description

Act2 Art Grades 6-8ACT II Art is a course designed to expand visual art to students who are not able to fit art into their normal school day.  Students from all grades and skill levels are welcome to join the course.  ACT II is available in the fall (semester 1) and spring (semester 2).  Attendance and grades will be a part of the course.The ACT II art course will introduce various art mediums and techniques.  Students will be engaged with many forms of art making including drawing, painting, and sculpture.  This class will strive to expose students to mediums that are not commonly used within the school day art course; such as charcoal, glass fusion, and ink.

10/7 2:40-4:00 Charcoal Drawing Students will use pressed charcoal, vine charcoal, and white charcoal pencils to engaged with an introductory drawing lesson. Students will focus on creating form through the use of value. As a class we will practice with basic shapes first then move to self selected subject matter based on a reference image.
10/21 2:40-4:00 Ink & Calligraphy In class we will explore the history of ink use in art and view examples. Students will practice with india ink, quill pens, and brushes. With practiced skills students will create a drawing using ink, pens, and brushes. Students will have the added option to explore calligraphy in class.
10/28 2:40-4:00 Marker Airbrush During this class students will use straws and markers to produce an airbrush technique. We will engage in a practice to learn to air brush and consider how it could be used in a composition. Students will use watercolor pencil to futher develop their creations. *Students will bring in a straw for class.
11/18 2:40-4:00 Clay Tile During this lesson students will research traditional clay tiles and relief art work. Students will draw on their inspiration to come up with an original tile design that represents important aspects about them. We will work with clay to cut a tile and learn clay building/carving techniques to add relief to the tile. Once fired students will apply glazes for color.
11/25 2:40-4:00 Splatter Paint Collage Students will focus on developing splatter paintings in this class. We will explore application, layering, textures, and color choices. Students will create several pieces. Once the projects dry we will discuss composition and how to cut and paste paintings into a final visual arrangement.
12/2 2:40-4:00 Plastic Sculpture During this class students will study design and use sharpies to create elaborate patterns on grafix shrink film. Students will consider design/patterns and color choices within three separate sheets. With teacher help student will heat the plastic sheets into curvy forms. The forms will be combined using hot glue into a final hanging sculpture.
12/9 2:40-4:00 Glass Fusion Students will learn about glass and its uses in creating art. As a class we will discuss the process of glass fusion. Students will be provided a glass square, glass pieces, and glass noodles/stringers to create a stacked glass composition. Once fired the stacked glass will fuse together. Students will have the option of making the piece functional (earing, charm, keychain, magnet) or slumping their piece into a small dish form.
12/16 2:40-4:00 Cardboard Creations During class students will engage in a 3D design challenge. Each student will bring in a cardboard box. They will research an image to use for reference. Students will use their cardboard material to create a 3D version of the reference image. Students will use cutting tools and hot glue to construct the sculpture. *Students will bring in one cardboard box for class.
1/6 2:40-4:00 Sculpey Sculpture Students will discuss form with various 3D models. Each student will brainstorm a character and sketch out a plan on paper. Students will then work to sculpt their character using Sculpey clay. A design challenge will focus on taking a final photo where students can use backdrops, props, or nature to enhance the final product photo.
1/13 & 1/27 2:40-4:00 Stop Motion Students will work as part of a team to create a short stop motion video. In class we will construct simple backgrounds, props, and characters. Students will brainstorm a short “story” to tell. Working as a team students will utilize the STOP MOTION App to develop a stop motion video. Students will add voice overs, sound effects, and music to further enhance their video.
*Note- Class time will be organized to maximize our working time. In some classes we will prep future lesson and or finish previous lessons.
