  • Today we will be following the B-Day schedule.  That means you’ll be attending periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class.  Again, this is a B-Day.  See your TA teacher with any questions.
    .
  • Calling all Munners! The WMS Model UN Club will be meeting TODAY during ASP 1 in room C105.  Participants will be working on their assignments for the upcoming Model UN conference — and will also be going over some important “parliamentary procedures.”  See Mr. McDermott with any questions.
    .
  • And now for a “Transportation Tip” about riding the LATE bus. If you’re ever planning to take the LATE BUS after school — you MUST have a signed pass from your after-school activity.  If you do not have a pass — you will NOT be allowed to ride the late bus.  Again — students must have a pass in order to ride the Late Bus.  See your grade-level administrator with any questions.
    .
  • And now for a technology tip from Ms. Solomon.  Students are reminded that you MUST keep your iPad completely enclosed in its protective case.  Many students have been REMOVING their iPads from the case — and not surprisingly, many of those iPads are BREAKING.  So be forewarned: if you’re seen without a case, it could result in serious consequences, including a phone call home.  Any questions?  Contact Ms. Solomon, or submit a Student Tech Help Request form.
    .
  • And now for an important announcement from our school librarians!  If you checked out a book from the school library in September or October — then it’s probably about time to turn it back in!  Teachers will be passing out overdue notices in TA this week.  Students are asked to PLEASE return their books as soon as possible.  So look in your lockers, your backpacks, and at home — and BRING IN YOUR BOOKS!!

  • Champions of Change -- Deb Haaland, Native American Heritage MonthAnd finally, November is Native American Heritage Month.  As part of the celebration, it’s time for Champions of Change — honoring the innovative, courageous, and dedicated individuals who helped to shape the world we live in.
    .
Meet Deb Haaland — who made history in March of 2021 when she was confirmed as Secretary of the Interior for the Biden administration.  It was the first time in our nation’s history that a Native-American has held a Cabinet-level position in the White House.
    .
Secretary Haaland is a member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe, which is located in west-central New Mexico.  She overcame numerous hardships throughout her life — facing down discrimination, living on food stamps, and raising a child as a single-mother.
    .
But nothing could hold her back.  Haaland put herself through college and law school.  Upon graduation, she became a fierce advocate for Native American rights.  And in 2017, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
    .
Haaland’s work in Congress gained national attention — which ultimately led to her nomination to lead the Department of the Interior.  Now, working with President Biden, she oversees public land, animal conservation, and even the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
    .
In her goodbye message to Congress, Haaland said, ““Growing up, Native women rarely held federal leadership positions and now little girls everywhere will know they can run for office and win. And that this country holds promise for everyone.”
    .
Deb Haaland is truly a Champion of Change!!
