- Today we will be following the B-Day schedule. That means you’ll be attending periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class. Again, this is a B-Day. See your TA teacher with any questions.
. - And now, we’d like to welcome a special a pair of guests to the WOLF-TV studio — to wrap-up our celebration of KINDNESS WEEK at WMS. Everyone say HELLO to Ms. Glasser and Ms. McDonald!!!
. - GLASER: Good morning, Williamsburg! I’m Ms. Glaser, your school Psychologist.
.
MCDONALD: And I’m Ms. McDonald, your school Social Worker. On our final day of Kindness Week here at WMS, we want to focus on EMPATHY.
.
GLASER: I’m sure you’ve all heard the expression before: “Try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.” Of course, we don’t mean that LITERALLY. In fact, empathy speaks to the importance of understanding another person’s feelings — and showing respect for what she or he is going through.
.
MCDONALD: We’ve all experienced adversity in our lives, gone through tough times, had our feelings hurt, and sometimes have even dealt with real tragedy.
.
GLASER: There’s no easy fix for those bad times — but when others show us EMPATHY, it makes us feel not so alone — and might give you a boost when you need it most.
.
MCDONALD: Empathy means acknowleging another’s struggle, and relating to what they’re experiencing. There’s no judgement, no criticism. To be truly empathetic, we must be open, honest, and full of care.
.
GLASER: So how do we demonstrate empathy towards others? First of all — just listen. Pay attention to what they’re saying — and don’t make it about yourself.
.
MCDONALD: Be observant. Facial expressions and body language often communicate a depth of feeling — if you’re paying attention.
.
GLASER: Be respectful Recognize and value their perspective — even if it’s different from your own.
.
MCDONALD: And of course — be kind. Validating their feelings can be as easy as saying: “Wow, that must be really hard for you.”
.
GLASER: Showing empathy can make a huge impact on someone’s life. So even when Kindness Week is over, let’s all pledge to be kind to one another….
.
BOTH: And Be a Part of the PRIDE!!!
. - Thanks Ms. Glaser and Ms. McDonald!! And speaking of kindness, don’t miss the next Kindness Club meeting scheduled for next MONDAY during ASP 1 in room 136. Participants will be working on the next Kindness campaign to enrich our shared community. Plus, the Kindness Club will be getting its picture taken for the WMS Yearbook on Monday — so don’t be late! See Ms. Pugliese, Ms. Briones, and Mr. G. with any questions.
. - The Best Buddies Club is hosting a meeting RIGHT NOW in room 108. Participating students who haven’t gone yet should IMMEDIATELY go down to room 108 and join in the fun. Once again, the Best Buddies Club is meeting NOW. Thanks, Buddy!!
. - Did you miss Picture Day last month — or did your picture not turn out so well? Then you’re in luck — because “Picture Make-Up Day” is coming soon! On Tuesday, December 3rd, picture retakes will be taken in the Auxiliary Gym — 8th graders during TA; and 7th and 6th graders during their Wolf Time periods. If it’s your first school picture, just go on down. But if it’s a retake, then you must bring your unwanted picture packet with you to exchange. And remember — if you don’t take a picture, then you WON’T be included in the WMS yearbook. See Ms. Wielechowski in the main office with any questions. Say cheese!
. - Calling all 7th grade writers! Are you passionate about writing? Are you always making up stories or creating movies in your head? Join the 7th grade NaNoWriMo writing team, during lunch in room C106, to create, write, and share ideas. See Ms. Han or your English teacher for any details or questions.
. - And now for a “Transportation Tip” about riding the bus. If you’re ever planning to take a bus that’s not your own — like if you’re going to a friend’s house after school — you MUST bring a note from home to the main office NO LATER than your grade level lunch. Again, do NOT wait until the end of the day to get a bus pass — because there isn’t time and you’ll miss the bus! See Ms. Wielechoski in the office with any questions.
. - And now it’s time for WOLF PACK PRIDE!! Twenty-seven WMS band students have earned a place on the Arlington Public Schools HONORS BAND!! This is an ENORMOUS honor, as they had to compete against HUNDREDS of the best musicians in the county. Plus, Williamsburg had the highest turnout of any school in all of APS. Our music program ROCKS!!
.
Let’s hear it for 6th graders Joshua H., Sarah K., Jacob L., Thane L., Ellena L., James M., and Jonah T!
.
7th graders Ben F., James H., Madeline K., Rachel L., Henry M., Gabriel O., and Natalie V!
.
And 8th graders Dora B.G., Jacob BG., Moses B., Lucas B., Michael D., Averie F., Ellie G., Adam K., Julia L., Porter P., Aidan R., Rohan S., Dylan Y! Way to go, musical wolves!!
.
The APS Honors Band will be performing for the public on January 25th; and the Junior Honors Band will be playing on March 17th — both at Kenmore Middle School. It’s certain to be a great show!
