  • SOL Schedule -- 5/24/19The SOLs continue today — with 6th graders on all teams taking the MATH exam. Here’s a look at the testing schedule for May 24th….
    .
The 6th grade testing window will run from 8 until 10:48 a.m., while both the 7th and 8th grades will follow a REGULAR class schedule. Testing locations are listed on the call-boards by the cafeteria and auditorium, or you can check with your TA teacher.
    .
Test-takers are reminded that you may ONLY bring the following items: your fully-charged iPad, a pencil or pen, a book to read, and earbuds ONLY if you have an approved audio accommodation for the test. You may NOT bring: backpacks or cinch sacks; any other electronic devices such as phones, watches, game consoles and the like; nor any water or snacks. And of course, there is zero tolerance for CHEATING.
    .
Please be aware that the testing window may extend beyond 10:48 — so students should remain in their designated locations until Mr. Boykin makes an announcement over the PA — at which time students may proceed to class. Any other questions or concerns? Check with your teachers, grade level counselors, or Ms. Cameron.
    .
And for all those students who are NOT testing today — please remember to be quiet and respectful in the halls. Teachers will be monitoring the hallways to ensure that there are no disruptions. Good luck on your SOL, 6th graders!
    .
  • And now, we’d like to welcome a special guest to the WOLF-TV studio. She’s got an important message to help us all get through the SOL season with a little less stress, and a little more ease.  Say hello to Ms. Schaefer!
    .
  • SCHAEFER: Good morning Williamsburg!  My name is Ms. Schaefer.  May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and today, we’re here with another MINDFUL MOMENT!
    .
When people get anxious or stressed-out, their breathing tends to speed up – which makes it HARDER to calm down. So, this morning, we’re going to practice “Relaxed Breathing” — a simple technique that is slower and deeper than normal breathing, and can actually help signal the body that it is safe to relax. Let’s give it a try!
    .
First, make sure you’re sitting comfortably, and if you’d like — you may close your eyes.  Try to breathe through your nose, and DELIBERATELY try to slow your breathing.
    .
Now, breathe IN to a count of three —   1……2……3. [PAUSE]  And then breathe OUT for a count of three —   1……2……3.
    .
Try to repeat this pattern of breathing on your own.  Breathe IN — 1……2……3.  [PAUSE]  Breathe OUT —  1…2……3. Keep breathing just like that. Make sure your breaths are smooth, steady, and continuous — and pay particular attention to your OUT-breath — keep it smooth and steady.
    .
Breathe IN — 1……2……3. [PAUSE]  And one last time, breath OUT — 1……2……3.  Very good. I feel better already!
    .
Thanks for joining us for this Mindful Moment of Relaxed Breathing. And if you’re feeling stressed over the next few weeks, I encourage you to take a moment — breathe IN, and breathe OUT —  and just try to RELAX.
    .
Have a great weekend, wolves, and… Be a part of the Pride!
    .
  • Thanks Ms. Schaefer!  Back to the news — Did you get a good breakfast today? On EVERY scheduled SOL testing day from now until June, the WMS cafeteria will be offering a FREE BREAKFAST to all students, from 7:25 to 7:50 a.m. It’s a FACT that a healthy breakfast fuels both your body AND your mind. So give yourself the best chance for success, and EAT YOUR BREAKFAST!!
    .
  • The WMS Library will be CLOSED today during SOL testing hours. But it WILL be open after school. So be sure to stop by this afternoon and get yourself something good to read — for after your SOLs this month!
    .
  • And speaking of the library — all library books will be DUE on June 3rd.  But you should start looking for lost books now — in your lockers, your bag, or even under your bed at home — or you may be responsible for the replacement cost.  Library carts will be stationed outside of the library and cafeteria during SOL testing — so you can return your books even if the library is closed.  See our school librarians with any questions.
    .
  • And now for a “Transportation Tip” about riding the bus. If you’re ever planning to take a bus that’s not your own — like if you’re going to a friend’s house after school — you MUST bring a note from home to the main office NO LATER than your grade level lunch. Again, do NOT wait until the end of the day to get a bus pass — because there isn’t time and you’ll miss the bus! See Ms. Argenal in the office with any questions.
