  • Could your parents survive a day in Middle School? We’ll soon find out! This THURSDAY is BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT at WMS, from 7 to 9pm. Parents will be virtually “walking in your shoes” — as they follow your daily schedule, meet your teachers, and tour the school. So go home and tell your folks — come to Back to School Night on Thursday — and be a Part of the Pride!
    .
  • Calling all MUNners! If you are DEFINITELY committed to participating in the upcoming McLean High School conference on September 29th — a.k.a. McMUN — you must submit your Commitment Form and Payment by this THURSDAY, September 20th. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. See Ms. Carlson with any questions.
    .
  • The WMS tennis team will ONCE AGAIN attempt to hold tryouts TODAY for 7th and 8th graders.  The plan is to meet at the bus loop after school and walk over to the Yorktown tennis courts. Bring your racket and a can of balls if you have them — and cross your fingers for better weather. See Mr. Seeger with any questions.

  • Hey 8th graders! The year may have just started, but it’s already time to think about HIGH SCHOOL!  Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology now is accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year.  If you’d like more information about this incredible academic opportunity, see Mr. Caldwell in the main office or go the TJ admissions website.  Good luck!

  • And now for a “technology tip” from Ms. Solomon! Do NOT upgrade your iPads to the latest iOS. Apple just came out with iOS 12 — but this upgrade is currently NOT compatible with our student iPads, so it will cause problems.  Again, DO NOT upgrade to the new iOS.  See Ms. Solomon with any questions.
    .
  • And now it’s time for WOLF PACK PRIDE!  HUNDREDS of kids attended the WMS Activities Fair yesterday in the cafeteria.  They got a first-hand look at many of our school’s sports, clubs, groups, ACT 2 classes, and even student government! A big SHOUT OUT to all the club sponsors and student volunteers who made this event possible — and help to make our school such a welcoming and engaging place.  Way to go, Wolves!! [clap]. If you’re interested in learning more about after-school activities, just go to the “Activities” link on the WMS website and select “After School Clubs.”
    .
  • And one last announcement this morning — Yesterday’s Constitution Quiz on Constitution DAY was “off the hook!”  DOZENS of TAs raced to Ms. Winter’s room with the answers to our trivia challenge — so many so that she had to start turning them away!  So first, here were the answers to the challenge:
    .
Number ONE — The “Father of the Constitution” was James Madison.
Number TWO — the oldest delegate at the Convention was Benjamin Franklin.
Number THREE — General George Washington was elected President of the Convention.
Number FOUR — The Preamble begins with “We the People.”
and Number FIVE — There are TEN amendments in the Bill of Rights.
    .
Many TAs got the answers correct… but there can be only ONE WINNER.  Congratulations to (drum roll, please) — Mr. Richard’s 7th grade TA!  For being the first TA to submit all of the correct answers, you’ll be getting a special “breakfast” treat — courtesy of the WMS Social Studies Department!
    .
Thanks again to everyone for participating — and for Being a Part of the Pride!
