- Today we will be following the BLUE DAY schedule. That means we start with an extended TA until 8:25. After that, you’ll proceed to periods 1 through 7 — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class. Again, this is a BLUE day. See your TA teacher with any questions.
. - And a reminder to all TEACHERS! Please be sure to check your Blue Day rosters following the Morning Announcements so you can tell your students where to go if they’ve been requested for another class. All other students will remain in your TAs and use this extra time to organize, study, or read!
. - Attention all students! It’s Locker Clean-Out Day!! TA teachers will be taking their classes to clean-out their lockers this morning. Most importantly, we need to make sure that there is NO FOOD left in your locker over Spring Break. We don’t want to get bugs! Once again, Locker Clean-Out Day begins immediately following the Morning Announcements.
. - Calling all PE students! Please bring your iPads to class today for a special Health Lesson Presentation. Once again, everyone should bring your iPad to PE today!
. - Attention Anime Club! There is NO MEETING this week. But SAVE THE DATE — on April 3rd, we’ve rescheduled our visiting artists from the New York School of Arts!! And be sure to plan your costume for the April Cosplay Contest on April 10th! See you after the break!
. - What’s that buzz? It’s the WMS Geo Bee — scheduled to take place on Friday, April 12th! Social Studies teachers are still searching for contestants. Do you have what it takes to win this annual event? Let’s find out with this sample question!
.
There are three countries in the world completely surrounded by ANOTHER country; these are called enclaves. Can you name those three enclaves? [pause for Jeopardy music] And the answers are: Lesotho — which is surrounded by South Africa; San Marino — which is surrounded by Italy; and Vatican City — which is entirely surrounded by the city of Rome, Italy!
.
How’d you do? Contact your Social Studies teacher for more information about competing in the upcoming WMS Geo Bee. And may the best student win!!
. - It’s March Madness! And we’ve got a pair of tournaments underway. First up: Ready, set, READ!! We’ve made it to the CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND of the March Madness Tournament of Books! This year’s contenders are “Ground Zero” verses “Scythe.” Both are AMAZING books — but which will be the champion???
.
Here’s how to participate: Just go to the WMS Library Canvas Course and cast your vote by THIS THURSDAY. We’ll announce the winning book on Friday. And the TAs with the winning brackets will be announced after Spring Break. Make your vote count! The March Madness Tournament of Books — may the best book win!!
. - Up next, it’s the Manie Musicale de Mars — aka the March Madness of Music! Nearly 6-million students from 34-countries are voting on the year’s best songs. And YOU get a vote, too! All students in FRENCH are reminded to cast your vote or the SEVENTH matchup in the Sweet-16.
.
And if any non-French students are interested in the tournament, too — just go to room 220 and scan the QR code, or ask Ms. McNeese for more information. Vive la Musique!!
. - And now it’s time for WOLF PACK PRIDE! Kudos to the Model UN team for representing WMS with PRIDE at last Saturday’s Model UN Conference.
.
Big props to Mason L. — who took home top honors as the best delegate — and to all eight of our participants for doing an amazing job. Way to go, MUNNER wolves!! [clap]
. - And finally, it’s National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week here at APS — which aims to inspire dialogue about drug use and addiction among youth. Today, we need to talk about ALCOHOL!
.
Alcohol is the most commonly abused substance by teens. Underage drinking can lead to DEVASTATING life consequences, such as: poor decision-making, addiction, and death.
.
For more information about drug and alcohol abuse, or if YOU or SOMEONE YOU KNOW needs help, please contact Ms. Chisolm, the WMS Substance Abuse Counselor.
