  • Brush your hair, wash your face, and smile for the camera, everybody — because this FRIDAY is PICTURE DAY at WMS!!  Student photographs will be taken during all PE classes, so be sure to bring your “picture order form” with you. Extras forms are located in the office, or you can download a form from the WMS website. See Ms. Argenal in the main office with any questions. Say cheese!!
    .
  • The Fall sports season at WMS is about to begin!  First up:  2-4-6-8 who do we appreciate?   Cheerleaders!  The WMS Cheer team will be hosting a 3-day MANDATORY Cheer Clinic — TODAY, TOMORROW, and THURSDAY from 2:45 to 4:15 in the Auxiliary Gym.  Interested athletes — both girls AND boys — should wear athletic shoes, shorts, and t-shirt, and participants with long hair should wear it pulled back in a high ponytail.   The actual TRYOUTS for the Cheer Team will be held next Monday, September 17th.  See Ms. Herb for more information.
    .
  • The Girls ULTIMATE FRISBEE season is getting ready to go! The first practice will be held TODAY after school in the WMS gym.  Interested female athletes of ALL experience levels are invited to attend — whether you’re a first-timer or a National Champion! See Mr. Smolinski with any questions. Let’s play!
    .
  • Put on your shin guards and cleats, because it’s time to play soccer! Tryouts for the WMS boys soccer team will be THIS WEEK after school. Here’s the schedule:  6th graders tryout TODAY; 7th graders on TUESDAY; and finally 8th graders on THURSDAY — all on the turf fields from 2:30 to 4. Come dressed and ready to play! See Mr. Witte with any questions.
    .
  • Serve, volley, overhead SMASH! Tryouts for the WMS Tennis Team is also getting into the “swing.”  The tennis team tryouts are for girls AND boys— with 8th graders TODAY; 7th graders on TUESDAY; and 6th graders on THURSDAY. Interested athletes should meet at the bus loop each day after school, where the team bus will transport you to the Yorktown tennis courts. Be sure to bring your racket — and a can of balls if you have one. And if anyone is UNABLE to attend your scheduled tryout day — please contact the coach, Mr. Seeger, about rescheduling.
    .
  • And a few reminders for all athletes — and all sports. First, you’ve probably noticed that there’s a LOT of rain in the forecast.  In the event of rain, be sure to listen to the announcements AT THE END OF THE DAY for information about cancellations and rescheduling.  So even if tennis or soccer gets rained out today, you’ll still be able to tryout later this week.
    .
  • Also, with the exception of Ultimate Frisbee, you MUST have a current physical on file to participate in all other after-school athletics. This is NON-NEGOTIABLE. For more information about getting a physical, see your coach, the school nurse, or the Activities coordinator — Ms. Hogwood.
    .
  • And now for a “Transportation Tip” about riding the bus. If you’re ever planning to take a bus that’s not your own — like if you’re going to a friend’s house after school — you MUST bring a note from home to the main office NO LATER than your grade level lunch. Again, do NOT wait until the end of the day to get a bus pass — because there isn’t time and you’ll miss the bus! See Ms. Argenal in the office with any questions.
