  • The SOLs keep rolling along today — as the 8th graders take their Science Exam.  Testing locations are listed on the call-boards by the library and cafeteria, or you can also check with your TA teacher.
    .
Test-takers are reminded that you may ONLY bring the following items: a pencil or pen, a book to read, and earbuds ONLY if you have an approved audio accommodation for the test. You may NOT bring: backpacks or cinch sacks; any electronic devices; nor any water or snacks. And of course, there is zero tolerance for CHEATING.
    .
And for all those students who are NOT testing today, remember that we are on an adjusted TEAM TIME schedule, and the bell will NOT be ringing between classes — so be sure to keep your eye on the clock.  Students are also asked to be quiet and respectful in the halls. Teachers will be monitoring the hallways to ensure that there are no disruptions.
    .
Any other questions or concerns? Check with your teachers or grade level counselor. Good luck on the SOL, 8th graders!
    .
  • Need something good to read?  The library may be closed during the SOLs, but students can still get books by clicking on the “Book Checkout Request” tab in the “Library” section of the WMS website.  The book will then be delivered to your TA as soon as it’s available.  Also, please be sure to return your books to the library carts located in the front lobby and by the cafeteria.  Reading rocks!
    .
  • Listen up, hoopsters!  The Yorktown Girls Basketball Team is recruiting rising 9th graders for next year’s team.  Interested athletes should attend the informational meeting TODAY at 3:15 in Patriot Hall at YHS.  Team officials will be on hand to answer all your questions, and tell you about some summer conditioning and “green day” opportunities.  Give it your best shot!
    .
  • The Yorktown Color Guard is hosting an “Open House Rehearsal” TONIGHT from 6 to 8 p.m. in room 174 at YHS.  The Color Guard combines music, dance, flag and sabre spinning in a fast-paced and spirited performance. The group is open to students in grades 8 through 12, so rising 8th and 9th graders are encouraged to check it out! For more information, go to www.yorktownband.org or contact Mr. Bersh, the Yorktown band director.

  • Calling all Cheerleaders!  Be sure to return your uniforms THIS WEEK during TA or in PE.  See Ms. Sutphin with any questions.

    .
  • The Leo Club also has big plans for the holiday weekend — they’ll  be marching in the Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC on Monday afternoon.  Leos and all other interested students are encouraged to join!  Participants will be riding the Metro downtown, then spending the day visiting museums and walking down Constitution Avenue.  Lunch and water will be provided.  Just be sure to get a permission slip from the main office either today or tomorrow. Go Leo!
    .
  • The WMS Model UN Club will be meeting TODAY during ASP 1 in room 202.  Participants will be performing their Mock Supreme Court Cases. See Ms. Carlson with any questions.
