  • We begin today with WOLF PACK PRIDE!  It’s National Walk and Bike to School Day — so we’re giving a special shout-out to all the students and staff who cruised to school on 2-wheels or 2-feet this morning.  Over 3-THOUSAND schools across America are participating in today’s event — which promotes healthy habits, a cleaner environment, public safety, and a sense of community.  And besides — who WOULDN’T want to be outside on a beautiful day like today?!  So thanks again for participating in National Walk and Bike to School Day!

  • And now for a story from the WMS Student Services Staff.  May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and as part of our “Stress Less, Laugh More” initiative, representatives from the Arlington County Department of Human Resources will be joining us during all grade-level lunches TODAY in the cafeteria.  They’ll have a table set-up with information about Mental Health Services and Suicide Prevention and Education. Plus, there will be a prize wheel and plenty of free giveaways — so drop by and check it out!

  • Hey, 8th graders!  If you’d like to join the Cheer or Dance Teams at Yorktown next year, then LISTEN UP! There will be a meeting for both Cheer AND Dance on THURSDAY at 7 p.m. in Patriot Hall at Yorktown High School.  Interested students and parents are encouraged to attend — as they discuss the new procedures for trying-out for the teams, as well as information about the training schedule for next summer and fall.  See Ms. Hogwood with any questions.

  • Sister Circle will be hosting its last meeting of the year on THURSDAY during ASP 1 in room 233.  There will be the end-of-the-year celebration — so don’t be late!  See Ms. Cameron with any questions.

  • Who wants pizza? The WMS Model UN Club will be hosting a pizza fundraiser on FRIDAY after school in the Main Lobby and by the Cafeteria. Get a slice of pizza and a cookie for just 2-dollars — and all money raised will go to support upcoming MUNner conferences and activities. Come Hungry!!!

  • Attention all students!! Next week marks the beginning of SOL season here at WMS — and we need to start getting ready. Students will be taking the SOLs on their iPads this year. But in order for it to work, your iPad must be updated, undamaged, and FULLY CHARGED each day. Starting NOW — please make sure you’re plugging-in your iPad every night, and let your TA teacher know IMMEDIATELY if your iPad is cracked or malfunctioning.

Also, it’s very important that EVERY STUDENT runs a “TestNav System Check” this week, to make sure the testing software is installed and functioning prior to the test.  For a quick tutorial on how to run the Systems Check, just go to the “Technology” section of the WMS Website, click “iPad Tech Tutorials”, then select “TestNav SOL System Check for Students.”  You can also follow the link located in today’s Morning Announcements Blog.  See Ms. Cameron or Ms. Solomon with any additional technology issues or questions about the upcoming SOLs.  And GOOD LUCK next week, Williamsburg!!
