  • First up — there will be a special assembly for all 6th graders in the auditorium during Wolf Time this morning.  Delegate Patrick A. Hope, of the Virginia 47th District, will be speaking about state government and the political process.  Student should report to the auditorium immediately following the morning announcements for this special event.  See Ms. Winter with any questions.
    .
  • But wait — there’s more!  The APS Humanities Program is sponsoring ANOTHER assembly today — and this one’s for both 6th and 7th graders.  The performance troupe “Urban Artistry” will be performing a high-energy and interactive show — at 11:38 for the 7th grade and at 12:56 for the 6th grade.  Students should go to their classes for attendance first, leave all of your belongings in the classroom, then proceed with your teacher to the auditorium.  See Mr. Brown with any questions, and enjoy the show!!

  • 2019 Tournament of Books -- CHAMPIONAnd now it’s time for WOLF PACK PRIDE!!  We now have the final results of the March Madness Tournament of Books!  In the Championship round, it was “Divergent” versus “The Hate U Give.”  And the winner is — drum roll, please — THE HATE YOU GIVE, by Angie Thomas!  And this one was a no doubter — by a vote of 691 to 371.
    .
Dozens of TAs in every grade submitted a bracket for this tournament — and incredibly TWO got it completely perfect.  Congratulations to Ms. Field’s 6th grade TA, and Ms. Ascenzi’s 8th grade TA!  You BOTH picked every single winner in every single round.  And for your prize, you’ve both been invited to a special “net-cutting ceremony” this FRIDAY during Wolf Time.  Thanks to everyone for making this such a successful tournament, and HOORAY for BOOKS!!

  • Wolf Pack Pride continues with the WMS Dive Team — who wrapped-up an UNDEFEATED SEASON last Thursday with a big win over Swanson Middle School.  And with the victory, your Williamsburg Wolves have been named the COUNTRY CHAMPIONS for 2019.  Congratulations to everyone on the team for a historic season.  Way to go, diving wolves!! [clap]
    .
  • And one last Wolf Pack Pride today goes to the WMS Swim Team who notched a nail-biting win again Swanson last week — the FIRST TIME Swanson has lost in FIVE YEARS!!  It was a tremendous victory — and a great momentum-builder heading into the County Finals this coming Thursday.  Way to go, water wolves!! [clap]

  • “Every HERO needs a squad!!” The Pennies for Patients fundraiser is in full swing — sponsored by the WMS Check-In Program. This national campaign benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which is working to find a cure for blood cancer. Pennies for Patients will run all month long, with the goal of raising 5-THOUSAND dollars.
    .
And here’s a little extra motivation for you: whichever TA collects the most money will get a free pizza and ice cream party!! Plus, Check-In will be selling CANDY and CHIPS after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. See Ms. Kia with any questions. And remember — every penny counts!!
    .
  • Tomorrow is LAST CALL for entries to the Arlington Student FilmFest!  Film-makers, journalists, and video-jockeys can submit their best original films by following the link in today’s Morning Announcements Blog.  The Festival itself will take place on June 1st at H-B Woodlawn — where all of the finalists and award-winners will be screened.  See Mr. Schonfeld for more information.  Now go make some movie magic!

  • And now for a “Transportation Tip” about riding the bus. If you’re ever planning to take a bus that’s not your own — like if you’re going to a friend’s house after school — you MUST bring a note from home to the main office NO LATER than your grade level lunch. Again, do NOT wait until the end of the day to get a bus pass — because there isn’t time and you’ll miss the bus! See Ms. Argenal in the office with any questions.
