  • Love is in the air!!  In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the SCA will be selling baked goods after school today, outside of the library and cafeteria.  So drop by and get a “treat” for your “sweet!”
  • Plus, for everyone who received a “Crush Can” today — be sure to stop by  the SCA booth at lunch to learn the identity of your secret admirer for just a buck.  Cookies will also be on sale for a dollar each.
  • We continue today with Random Acts of Kindness Week — and this morning’s message is about KINDNESS and EMPATHY, two traits that are closely related. Kindness is simply empathy in action. Recognizing how someone feels and then DOING SOMETHING about it — that’s kindness.  Always remember the words of the Ancient Storyteller, Aesop. “No act of Kindness, however small, will go unnoticed.”
  • This is a reminder for TA teachers to pass our 2nd quarter REPORT CARDS today! Please note that students will also be receiving a “Reading Inventory Letter” to send home. Hooray for report cards!!!
  • Hey 8th graders! Your Yorktown “Course Request Forms” are due TODAY. So stop procrastinating, pick your classes and turn them in — ASAP!! See your counselor with any questions.
  • Read any good books lately? The Teen Advisory Board — a.k.a. TAB — will be meeting TODAY during all grade level lunches in the library. So grab your grub and come take a look at these Totally Awesome Books!!
  • And speaking of books, how about showing a little “Love” for your school library?! Return your library books TODAY and you’ll receive a Hershey’s Kiss! So eat some chocolate, and return your books!
  • Need help with Spanish? The Yorktown Spanish Honor Society is back — offering FREE tutoring TODAY during ASP 2 in room WW 11. Get extra help with grammar and vocab — and everything you need to succeed. Just sign up with your Spanish teacher to attend, or see Senora Stewart with any questions. Hasta pronto!
  • The Boys Cohort will meet TODAY during ASP I in room 233. The topic will be LEADERSHIP — and new members are always welcome. See Ms. Pointer or Mr. Hicks with any questions.
  • There will be a Model UN meeting TODAY for the 8th Grade WOLFMUN Planning Committee — during ASP 1 in room 202. Then on THURSDAY, there will be an important “prep” meeting for EVERYONE going to the “William and Mary” and “Sidwell Friends” conferences. See Mrs. Carlson with any questions.
  • On your marks, get set, GO!! The WMS Track and Field season is almost upon us. So if you like to run, jump, skip, or throw — then sign-up using the QR code posted outside of the cafeteria, and be sure to come to the interest meeting on THURSDAY during ASP 1 in the gym. See Mr. Treble with any questions.
  • It’s Back !!! The WMS Model UN Club will be selling pizza on FRIDAY, immediately after school in the Main Lobby and by the Cafeteria. 2-dollars will get you a slice and a cookie! All proceeds go to fund upcoming Conferences and activities. Pizza pizza!!
  • And finally today — a special poetry reading in celebration of Black History Month.  “Won’t You Celebrate with Me” — by Lucille Clifton — read by 8th grader Jalisa S.
