  • Tonight and Tomorrow — YOUR teachers — YOUR parents — talking about YOU!! That’s right, it’s time for Parent-Teacher Conferences here at WMS.  They’ll be “arena style” — tonight from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.; and tomorrow from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.  No appointment is necessary, so tell your parents to just come on in and have a chat.
    .
  • The WMS-PTA Book Fair is still up-and-running in the Library this week.  Students are invited to stop by during lunch, or whenever you’ve got a few free minutes. Plus, the Book Fair will remain open “after hours” tonight and tomorrow during Parent-Teacher Conferences.  So don’t forget to bring your money — and get yourself a good book!
    .
  • And here’s a special announcement for all PE students — which is everyone, so LISTEN UP!!  The gymnasium will be CLOSED today in preparation for tonight’s Parent-Teacher Conferences.  So ALL STUDENTS should report to the auditorium for PE, instead.  Again, PE will be held in the auditorium today.
    .
  • All after school clubs, activities, and intramurals are CANCELLED today due to Parent-Teacher Conferences.  You don’t have to go home… but you can’t stay here!
    .
  • And now for a “Transportation Tip” about riding the bus. If you’re ever planning to take a bus that’s not your own — like if you’re going to a friend’s house after school — you MUST come to the office to get a BUS PASS.  Be sure to bring a note from home to get permission, or tell your parents to call the main office.  NO ONE will be allowed on a different bus without a pass.

  • Calling all dancers, musicians, writers, filmmakers, and visual artists! The PTA Reflections Contest has been EXTENDED until next FRIDAY, November 3rd. So put your creative genius to the test and develop a project around this year’s theme: “Within Reach.” Just get a submission form and turn-in your entry to the “Reflections” box in the library. Go to the PTA website for more information.

  • SOCKTOBER continues on this month! And the WMS Kindness Club encourages everyone to donate socks, gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, jackets and blankets to help the homeless in Arlington over the winter. Just drop your items in your TA donation box to participate. And the TA in each grade with the most donations wins a TA breakfast! So be kind, and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

  • How would you like to be featured in a special section of the yearbook this year? From now until the end of October, the WMS yearbook is accepting pictures for both its “Summer Vacation” and “Now & Then” sections of its annual publication. If you’ve got some fun pics, just email them to elizabeth.briones@apsva.us or bring them down to room 136. See Ms. Briones with any questions.
    .
  • There will be NO Model UN meeting this week, but the next conference at GWMUN is coming up fast — so participants are reminded to turn in ALL paperwork by this THURSDAY. See Mrs. Carlson with any questions.

  • BOO!  Didn’t mean to scare you — but can you BELIEVE it’s almost Halloween?!  Next TUESDAY is All Hallow’s Eve — and students are encouraged to dress up in your best costume for the occasion. However, there are some important guidelines that you need to follow.  Basically, costumes must conform to the WMS dress code, not offend anyone, no weapons, no masks, and nothing inappropriate. And if you’re not sure — ask a teacher or administrator. If your costume crosses the line, you’re not in trouble — but a school official may ask you get “in line.” Thanks for understanding, and have a Happy Halloween!!
