- Attention all Model UN Students attending the McLean conference on October 22nd – Please report to room 202 IMMEDIATELY following the morning announcements TODAY to choose your delegate assignment. Be sure to bring your iPad so you can also sign up for the very important MUN Google Classroom. The next meeting for all members is scheduled for THURSDAY during ASP 1. Please see Mrs. Carlson with any questions.
- Calling all candidates!! All students running for the SCA should please report to a short but important meeting TODAY after school in room 205. See Mr. Peacock with any questions.
- Need help with Spanish?The Yorktown tutors are back! Come to Room WW5 TODAY during ASP II for the first session this fall. Get the extra practice you need to succeed — en Espanol!! Hasta pronto!
- Hey 8th graders! Are you applying to TJ for next year? Yes? Then get the lead out! Applications for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology are due on THURSDAY by 4 P.M. There are NO EXCEPTIONS! Please see Ms. Flynn in the main office with any questions, and Good Luck!!
- Pumpkins for Sale!! The Leo Club Pumpkin Sale has been re-scheduled for this THURSDAY after school by the cafeteria bus loop. Pumpkins are just 5-dollars each, and all money raised will go to the American Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Matthew. So come on out and get a pumpkin, you bumpkin!!
- Calling all dancers, musicians, writers, filmmakers, and visual artists! Put your creative genius to the test in the annual “Reflections” contest. This year’s theme: “What Is Your Story?” Just get a submission form and turn-in your entry to the “Reflections” box in the library by next MONDAY.
- Mark your calendars, because Discovery Elementary School will be hosting “PumpkinFest” on Sunday, October 30th from 12 to 4PM. There will be a parade, pumpkin carving contest, dunk tank, moon bounce, food trucks and a ton of games. But they need YOUR HELP! Discovery needs middle school VOLUNTEERS to help make PumpkinFest a success. Interested students are encouraged to sign-up in the main office.
- The WMS Boys soccer team scratched out a 1 to nothing WIN over Jefferson last week. It’s their first shutout, and THIRD consecutive victory to stay undefeated this season. Fantastic goal-tending by Logan O. and Jackson H. Way to go, soccer wolves! [clap]
- And now for an interesting fact — courtesy of Mr. McDermott: the United Nations has declared October 11th “International Day of the Girl Child.” Its purpose is to raise attention and support for young women across the world — as well as right here in the U.S. — so they can reach their full potential. Areas of concern include discrimination, health, safety, education and equal rights. Check out the United Nations website for more information, and to learn how YOU can help!
- In case you haven’t been paying attention, there are fewer than 30 days left until the Presidential election — and this thing is getting CRAZY!! Here with his thoughts on the candidates is “student-reporter” and “political commentator” Mike Ferguson, with his new segment: We’re All Just Orangutans!!
