  • The Best Buddies Club is hosting its first meeting of the year RIGHT NOW in room 108. Participating students who haven’t gone yet should IMMEDIATELY go down to room 108 and join in the fun.  Thanks, Buddy!!

  • Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th. It’s a time to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.  Here to tell us more about Hispanic Heritage Month — and what WE’VE got in store to celebrate here at WMS — is our very own English Learner Counselor:  Mr. Valdez!!
    .
  • VALDEZ:  Buenos Dias, WMS! It’s me, Senor Valdez.  As you’ve just heard, this is Hispanic Heritage Month.
    .
Roughly 57-MILLION people in the United States are of Hispanic or Latina descent— and throughout our nation’s history, the Hispanic people and culture have played an important and influential role in the development of this great country that we all share.  Language, cuisine, music, dance, and so much more bears its unmistakable influence.
    .
Beginning next week, we at WMS will commence a week-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. There will be special activities each day during TA or lunch.  Plus, be sure to pay close attention during the Morning Announcements on WOLF-TV — whose Hispanic Heritage Month segments will be the basis of TRIVIA DAY next Thursday during all grade level lunches.
    .
I’m looking forward to the fiesta — and I hope you are, too.  Se parte de nuestro orgullo, Williamsburg!!
    .
  • Thanks, Mr. Valdez — and hasta luego!  And now it’s time for WOLF PACK PRIDE!!  Congratulations to the undefeated WMS tennis team — who racked up another victory yesterday against Dorothy Hamm Middle School — 3 to 2.  It was a great effort from the whole team — with big wins from 6th grader Maxik S.; and 8th graders Jacklynka S., Matthew H., Eleni G., and Qiaojing H.  Way to go, tennis wolves!!  [clap]. Next up for the team — get ready for a fun practice on Monday — and then we’re taking on Swanson next Tuesday at Yorktown.
    .
  • Moving on to girls soccer — our Wolves took another tough loss yesterday — zero to 2 against Dorothy Hamm.  Our players gave it their all, but came up just a bit short.  Great game, soccer wolves — you’ll get them next time!  [clap]  We’ll look to get back into the WIN column next Tuesday, when the Girls Soccer team hosts Swanson at 3:15.
    .
  • Calling all bi-lingual 7th and 8th graders! If you know how to read and write in any language other than English, you should take the “Credit by Exam.” It’s an easy way to earn up to FOUR high school credits. But you must register by TODAY to be eligible.  See your grade-level counselor ASAP for more information.
    .
  • Have you ever been “DRESS CODED?”  Think the current dress code is violating your Freedom of Speech? Or perhaps it targets some groups more than others?  If you’d like to play a role in updating the Dress Code, then join the WMS Dress Code Committee — holding its first meeting next MONDAY during ASP 1 in room 201.  See Ms. Kenney or 7th grader Mary Francis for more information.  YOU have a voice in this school — so make yourselves heard, Williamsburg!!
    .
  • Put your creative genius to the test! The annual PTA Reflections Contest is now accepting submissions from all grade-level students. This year’s theme is: “Look Within.” Projects can include Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, or Visual Arts. Submission forms can be found in the WMS Library, and projects must be received by October 28th. Unleash your inner artist and submit today!!
    .
  • And finally today — get ready to show your WOLF PACK PRIDE!  Next MONDAY — everyone in our WMS community is encouraged to wear the color ORANGE in support of “Bullying Prevention Month” this October.  So wear ORANGE next Monday and join with us — students, teachers, and staff — as we take a stand against bullying.
