  • We begin today with a trio of special guests here at the WOLF-TV studio — with a special message of “kindness” for those who need us most.  Please welcome Ms. Schaefer, Mr. Johnson, and Ms. Zeller!
    .
SCHAEFER:  Hello, everyone!  I’m Ms. Schaefer.
    .
    JOHNSON:  I’m Mr. Johnson.
    .
ZELLER:  And I’m Ms. Zeller.  We’re here representing the WMS Kindness Club — and to ask for your help.
    .
SCHAEFER:  This fall, a pair of natural disasters has befallen the United States.  First, on September 14th, Hurricane Florence made landfall in the Carolinas — with days of record-breaking rain and floods to the region.
    .
JOHNSON:  And just this week, Hurricane Michael struck the Florida Panhandle — registering as the 4th most powerful Hurricane in U.S. history!
    .
ZELLER:  In all, millions of people were affected, many losing their homes, their livelihood, and worse.
    .
SCHAEFER:  Although we in Northern Virginia were spared from the physical devastation, many people in our community were still impacted — when their friends and loved ones were forced to flee the storms.
    .
JOHNSON:  For them — and for everyone affected by Florence and Micheal — we need YOU to make a difference.
    .
ZELLER:  The WMS Kindness Club is sponsoring a Hurricane Relief Fundraiser here at Williamsburg.  All money raised will go to relief organizations providing essential help and services to victims of the Hurricanes.
    .
SCHAEFER:  Starting on MONDAY and running until October 26th, donation boxes will be available every morning in each grade-level holding area before TA.  Just look for your counselor to make a donation — either cash or checks are happily accepted.
    .
JOHNSON:  Our daily fundraising progress will be posted every day by the cafeteria.  And to make things a little more interesting — how about a friendly competition?  If YOUR GRADE raises the most donations, then EVERY TA in that grade will be entered into a raffle — and whichever TA is picked from the winning grade will receive a special token of gratitude.
    .
ZELLER:  Anything you can give will make a HUGE difference for Hurricane Relief.
    .
SCHAEFER:  Thank you, Williamsburg, and thanks for…
    .
ALL:  Being a Part of the Pride!!!
    .
  • Hey, 8th graders!  The WMS Yearbook Staff is conducting a SUPERLATIVE voting quiz — EXCLUSIVELY for 8th graders from now until October 23rd.  To participate, just scan the QR codes located in the 8th grade trailers and cast your vote.  Superlatives are super!!
    .
  • And there’s ANOTHER Yearbook Survey for ALL STUDENTS happening this week — it’s for a new page all about popular “trends.”  Just scan any of the QR codes and submit your vote to participate.  It’s trending NOW!
    .
  • Grab your frisbees, gentlemen!  The start of the Boys Ultimate Frisbee Team is just days away — beginning MONDAY, October 15th.  Interested “spinners” are encouraged to sign-up on the activities board by the cafeteria.  Whether you’re an old-pro or a first-timer — ALL are welcome!  See Mr. Smolinski with any questions.
    .
  • A quick reminder that the WMS tennis team will hold its LAST PRACTICE on MONDAY — in preparation for the County Singles and Doubles tournaments on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.  Get ready to play!
    .
  • Last month’s “Activities Fair” was a HUGE success, as tons of kids got a first-look at all the amazing after-school activities here at WMS!
    .
In case you missed it, here’s your chance to check-out all the sights and sounds of that amazing event.  WOLF-TV student-reporters Jonah P., John E., and Farhad A. have got the inside scoop on WMS activities!

  • Put your creative genius to the test! The annual PTA Reflections Contest is now accepting submissions from all grade-level students. This year’s theme is: “Heroes Around Me.” Projects can include Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, or Visual Arts. Submission forms can be found in the WMS Library, and projects must be received by October 25th. Now go create something awesome!!
    .
  • Attention 6th and 7th graders — It’s time to GET DOWN and BOOOOOOOO-gie!   Just in time for Halloween, the WMS Spook-tacular Skeleton Stomp is coming at you — courtesy of the WMS PTA.  The 7th grade party is scheduled for TUESDAY, October 23rd; and the 6th grade party is one week later, TUESDAY, October 30th — both during ASP 1 and 2 in the cafeteria — so you can still take the late bus home. There will be food, a DJ and dancing, games, raffles, prizes and more. And please — despite the Halloween theme — NO COSTUMES.
    .
  • And now for a “Transportation Tip” about riding the bus. If you’re ever planning to take a bus that’s not your own — like if you’re going to a friend’s house after school — you MUST bring a note from home to the main office NO LATER than your grade level lunch. Again, do NOT wait until the end of the day to get a bus pass — because there isn’t time and you’ll miss the bus! See Ms. Argenal in the office with any questions.

  • ANCHOR: And now — Fall is here.. and that means FOOTBALL season is upon us. So let’s go to WOLF-TV’s resident football fanatic, Daniel S., for a preview of this weekend’s matchups. Take it away, Danny-Boy!
    .
DANNY-BOY:  Hello Williamsburg, I am Daniel Sennott and this is another edition of Strictly Football. Today I’ll be previewing and predicting some of the biggest football games this weekend. Last time I went 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread, so now it’s time to prove that wasn’t a fluke.
    .
First up, this Saturday, MY team — the 15th ranked Wisconsin Badgers — travels to the Big House to take on #12 the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan is favored in this Big Ten Showdown, but I’m taking the Badgers. Now, I may be biased, but Wisconsin has only lost 1 road game since 2015, and Michigan hasn’t looked too good this year — losing to Notre Dame and barely squeaking out a win against Northwestern.  ON WISCONSIN!!!
    .
In another big matchup, second ranked Georgia travels to Death Valley to take on the 13th ranked LSU Tigers. The Dawgs are favored by 7.5, and I’m playing the odds.  UGA wins over LSU.
    .
Now with college out of the way, let’s take a look at the NFL! This week I’m picking two primetime matchups, starting with the undefeated Chiefs taking on the Patriots in primetime on Sunday Night Football.  New England is favored by 3.5, but I’m taking the underdogs. KC wins outright in Foxborough.
    .
And on Monday Night Football, it’s MY team again — the Green Bay Packers play host to the San Francisco 49ers. The Packers are favored by 9.5, and with temperatures dropping into the 20’s, San Francisco doesn’t stand a chance.  I’m taking MY team to win and cover.
    .
Alright, football fans, that’s Strictly Football for this week.  I’m Daniel, and I’ll see you on the gridiron!
    .
  • ANCHOR:  Thanks, Daniel!  And now, let’s take a look at your local weather with our very own WOLF-TV weatherman — Lightning Luke!!  What’s it look like outside today, Luke?
    .
LIGHTNING:  What’s up, Williamsburg?! It’s FRIDAY, October 12, 2018! I’m Lightning Luke. Welcome to “Wolf Weather” on WOlf-TV.  We’ve got the latest scoop on what Mother Nature’s got in store. So let’s “take the temperature” on this week’s weather.
    .
LIGHTNING: The weather today is partly cloudy with a high of 64 degrees. This afternoon should be a little chilly, but mostly the same with a low of 59. And those temps will hold steady for the rest of the weekend. We’re hoping for more sunshine on Saturday, but there is a chance of showers, while Sunday looks like a mix of sun and clouds. But I’m betting the rain will hold off — cross your fingers! — and your outdoor plans should be good to go.
    .
LIGHTNING: Speaking of getting outdoors, this weekend is filled of new attractions and events happening in D.C. Saturday marks the grand opening of the National Law Enforcement Museum. This newest addition to the Smithsonian  family highlights first-responders in America, and features more than 20,000 objects. It sounds REALLY cool!
    .
LIGHTNING: Well, that’s it for Wolf Weather on WOLF-TV. Once again, I’m Lightning Luke, and remember — it’s always calmest before the storm — so don’t forget your umbrella!
