  • Newsflash everybody:  TODAY is the LAST DAY of the 2nd Quarter — so this is your LAST CHANCE to submit any missing or make-up work to your teachers.  Also, 7th and 8th graders taking semester-long electives are reminded that your NEW class begins on Monday, so be sure to check your schedule in StudentVue or see your counselor for more information.  We’re halfway home, everybody!!
    .
  • And now for an important message from our school librarians.  The overdue book total at WMS is currently at 622.  That’s a LOT of bananas!  So this morning, TA teachers will be distributing overdue notices.  Students are asked to PLEASE return your books to either the library or the book cart by the cafeteria.  And remember — if you have 3 or more overdues, you will NOT be permitted to check-out any additional titles until they’ve been returned.  So check your backpack, your locker, your classrooms, and under your bed at home, and BRING IN YOUR BOOKS!!!
    .
  • Attention 6th and 7th graders!  Believe it or not, but it’s already time to sign-up for next year’s classes!  Course Request Forms — the CRFs — must be turned-in to your counselor by next FRIDAY at the latest.  If you miss the deadline, you could get stuck with a class that you don’t really want.  So stop procrastinating and complete your CRF!  See you grade-level counselor with any questions.
    .
  • Stop the presses!!  If you’re looking for a fast-paced, challenging, and super fun elective for next year — then JOURNALISM is for you! 7th graders in the “New Media Class” will become student-reporters — using modern technology and social media to gather and report the news.  And you’ll even get to produce your very own series of Video Blogs.  And for 8th graders, it’s all about Broadcast News and TV Production!  Run your own TV station — WOLF-TV — produce the Morning Announcements, and develop original programming about issues that YOU care about.  The TRUTH is out there — so sign up TODAY!  See Mr. Schonfeld with any questions.
    .
  • And there’s also some incredible classes at Yorktown for our outgoing 8th graders to consider.   Courses like Guitar and Music Theory give your the opportunity to learn an instrument, use microphones, write songs, and use programs like Protools & GarageBand to make your own music!  Check out these videos for more information!
  • Today is the FINAL DAY of the WMS Electronics Recycling Drive.  So bring in cell phones, lap tops, cameras, batteries, or any other electronics — and they’ll be safely wiped and recycled. Just drop them in the bins by the main entrance or cafeteria. After all: Recycling today will make the world a better place tomorrow.  See Ms. Mentch or a member of the Earth Club with any questions.
    .
  • The WMS boys basketball team is going for two in a row today, as they host Gunston Middle School at 3:15 in the gym.  So come on down and pack the stands.  Let’s root them on to victory — and Be a Part of the Pride!
    .
  • Sister Circle will be meeting TODAY during ASP 1 in room 233. Members and allies are encouraged to come out for a little Girl Talk — and a lot of fun activities! See Ms. Cameron with any questions.
    .
  • Calling all actors, singers and dancers!   Auditions for the WMS Spring Musical — Beauty and the Beast, Jr. — will be held on MONDAY and TUESDAY of next week, during ASP 1 and 2 in the auditorium.  In addition, there will be a sign-up for Backstage Crew — all those technical jobs “behind-the-scenes” that help bring the show to life.  See Mr. Brown with any questions or for more information.  Good luck, thespian wolves!!
    .
  • Batter up!  The Yorktown High School Softball Team is inviting 8th grade girls to try out for its upcoming spring season.  Tryouts are scheduled to begin on Monday, February 19th — which is a school holiday — from 11:45 to 2:30 on the YHS softball and turf fields. Interested student-athletes should sign-up on the Activity Board by the cafeteria, or see Ms. Sutphin for more information.
    .
  • This week is National Drug Facts Week.  It’s a national campaign whose mission is to provide teenagers with the TRUTH about drug use and addiction. If you’re going to make good decisions, you need to have good information.  So take a look at the informational posters by the downstairs science classrooms.  Or you can ask an expert — our school Substance Abuse Counselor, Ms. Shivon, will the cafeteria today. Drop by and say “Hi.”
    .
  • And finally today — there’s a great big world out there… but there’s an even bigger VIRTUAL WORLD.  And student-reporter David K. is here to bring you the most cutting-edge innovations, in TECH on WOLF-TV!!
