- Today we will be following the A-Day schedule. That means you’ll be attending periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 — so be sure to double-check that you’ve got the correct books and binders for class. Again, this is an A-Day. See your TA teacher with any questions.
. - And now, we’d like to welcome a pair of special guests to the WOLF-TV studio — to continue our celebration of KINDNESS WEEK at WMS. Everyone say HELLO to Ms. Brenckle and Ms. Shoomaker!!!
. - BRENCKLE: Good morning, Williamsburg!! I’m Ms. Brenckle, your 8th grade counselor.
.
SCHOOMAKER: And I’m Ms. Schoomaker, your counselor-in-training. It’s Kindness Week here at WMS — and today we’d like to talk about the importance of being kind… to YOURSELF.
.
BRENCKLE: That’s right. You see, all too often, we’re our own worst critics. People tend to focus on the NEGATIVE — which makes it that much harder to be successful.
.
SCHOOMAKER: Instead, we encourage you to try to use POSITIVE self-talk — it’s like “looking on the bright side!” Positive self-talk helps us to get out of our rut; to move forward; and to find solutions, optimism, hope, and joy in any given situation.
.
BRENCKLE: Here are some examples of NEGATIVE versus POSITIVE self-talk. Instead of saying “I failed and embarressed myself,” try saying “I’m proud of myself for even trying — that took courage!”
.
SCHOOMAKER: If your team loses a tough game, don’t say “I let everybody down by not scoring” — instead, say “I tried my best. We win together, and we lose together — as a TEAM.”
.
BRENCKLE: Or when a problem is particularly difficult, don’t say “This will never work” — instead, say “I haven’t found the answer yet — but I know that I’ll get it eventually.”
.
SCHOOMAKER: Positive self-talk not only helps you overcome adversity — but can even help to improve your heath! An optimistic attitude can improve your immune function, lead to better cardiovascular and physical well-being, reduce stress, and even lower your blood pressure.
.
BRENCKLE: And best of all — positive self-talk is all within your OWN control. It just takes a little practice — so try to say something positive about yourself, every day.
.
SCHOOMAKER: Be kind to YOURSELVES, wolves…
.
BOTH: And Be a Part of the Pride!!
